1. Cannot connect to InfoWorkSpace server from client machine. (v2.x)

  1. Ensure that client machine can see the InfoWorkSpace server by pinging the "shortname" and "fqhn" from within a DOS or terminal window.
  2. Clear our InfoWorkSpace client cache ("InfoWorkSpace" folder located in user home directory) and iwsClient.properties file.
  3. Ensure that Firewall ports are open and correctly configured: Port 1099 TCP Inbound and Outbound, 8087 TCP Inbound and Outbound, and 8084 UDP Inbound and Outbound).

4. Why can't I see the same buildings as my co-worker? (v2.x)

InfoWorkSpace is a permissions-based virtual environment. Administrators can selectively manage these permissions by individual, groups, buildings, floors, or rooms. Check with your InfoWorkSpace Administrator to ensure you have the permissions needed.

5. My wave output audio is automatically muted when I connect to InfoWorkSpace. (v2.x)

This may occur on some manufacturer's sound cards. If this occurs, wave output must be manually un-muted at the beginning of an InfoWorkSpace session.

6. Audio appears to be "one-way." I can hear others, but they cannot hear me. (v2.x)

If audio is restricted to a specific UDP port (8084), then insert that port number in the PW Transport tab located within the client application. Select "Tools" | "Audio Setup". Insert port number in UDP Port field provided. Close out of InfoWorkSpace Client/LP, log back in. Additionally, ensure that your Transport tab in the Audio Setup is consistent throughout your environment. These options may include Unicast, Multicast, and Automatic. Unicast is the most common setup within networks that are not Multicast enabled. If you are unsure, it is best to select Unicast, then restart your client application.

7. Client machine will not run the InfoWorkSpace application after installed. No errors were experienced during installation of software. (v2.1)

Solaris only:
InfoWorkSpace software directories need to be owned by "bin:bin", and need a permission setting of at least 755. If the directories are owned by "root:other", and have permission that would prevent execution of files, the application will not work. A one-time change can be made to each Solaris client machine. Type the following in a terminal window: chown -hR /opt/iws2/IWS*

** This solution assumes that you have chosen the default installation path. If an alternate path was chosen, replace as needed.

8. Portal interface does not display Places. "Please Refresh Your Browser" is displayed in its place. (v2.5)

If the Portal Admin user is not created properly and assigned the "security" permission, this error will result. Refer to page 149 of the InfoWorkSpace Administrator's Guide for proper setup and configuration of the Portal Manager.

9. After setting audio preferences (Tools > Audio Setup in IWS; Preferences > Audio/Video Setup in LaunchPad) and closing the PlaceWare Media Control settings window, the changes are not saved. (v2.x)

The pwmedia.ini file stores the settings for the PlaceWare audio properties. This file is saved in the C:\WINNT or C:\Windows directory, depending on your workstation OS. Only users who have write privileges to this directory are able to save settings through the GUI.
