1. When the client is installed on a Windows 2000 workstation in the registry keys in HK_CLASSSES_ROOT\CLSID\{####}\InprocServer32 a key is created called InprocServer32 which has an invalid string value. Can these keys be deleted? (v2.5)

If installing the InfoWorkSpace v2.5.1 client, this registry value may be related to an OCX entry for MS Outlook integration.

Prior to deleting any registry key/value, it is strongly recommended that you back up that key.

2. What does the IWS_cleanup.exe program do? (v2.x)

The IWS_cleanup.exe checks for previous file versions of key files. It only needs to run once, but remains present on your system.

This executable can be deleted.

3. The client gets a blue screen as it is trying to connect to load the PW media client. (v2.x)

Modify the PWMEDIA.INI file. The PWMEDIA.INI should be located under the Windows or Winnt directory.

  • Open the PWMEDIA.INI file.
  • Add the following line of text to the end of the file: force-half-duplex=true
  • Save the file and exit the window.

4. Cannot connect to InfoWorkSpace through browser client. Error reads: http://InfoWorkSpaceserver/placeware/lib/client/edu/ cmu/sei/cbs/NDBS.class with no proxy java.lang.NoClassDefFoundError: edu/cmu/sei/cbs/NDBS. (v2.1)

** Resolved in v2.5 client software.

Client JAVA "ext" folder did not get correctly populated. Remove and re-install JAVA 2 Plug-in provided on InfoWorkSpace Client CD-ROM. If issue ensues, contact InfoWorkSpace Technical Services (1-866-269-0532).

5. Java 1.2.2_009 plug-in only works for user that installed it or admin level user. (v2.1)

** Resolved in v2.5 client software.

An "Admin" level user must make a one-time permission change on each client machine.

  • Run "regedt32".
  • Locate the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE window.
  • Locate the SOFTWARE/Javasoft registry key.
  • Highlight the Javasoft registry key.
  • Select "Security", then "Permissions" from the menu bar.
  • Locate and highlight the "All Users" group or another group that all of your basic users belong to.
  • Place a checkmark in the "Full Control" box.
  • Close "regedt32".

6. The Client CD-ROM autorun interface is not displaying. (v2.x)

The InfoWorkSpace Client CD-ROM autorun interface will not work properly if the CD-ROM is inserted into a secondary CD-ROM read device. Double-clicking the CD-ROM DRIVE letter in "My Computer" will manually bring up interface.

7. Could not see InfoWorkSpace icon on Solaris Client machine. (v2.x)

Install application with root user permissions.

8. What patches are required on my Solaris workstation in order to install InfoWorkSpace? (v2.x)

In addition to the Solaris recommended operating system patches, you must install Sun Microsystems JRE patches. These patches are provided on the InfoWorkSpace Client CDROM. Run the "install_patches" script (located in the "Solaris_Patches" folder) to have your operating system automatically detected and the appropriate JRE patches installed.

9. Internet Explorer provided on InfoWorkSpace v2.1 client CD-ROM will not install. (v2.1)

Install the Java 2 Plug-in from InfoWorkSpace v2.1 client CD-ROM prior to installing the IE 5 installer.

Resolved in v2.5 client software.

10. Solaris client bin files will not install. Reports a VM error. (v2.1)

Install Solaris JVM O/S patches provided on client CD-ROM.

11. Cannot install Java2 Plug-in on Solaris 8 client or Solaris 2.5.1 client. (v2.1)

Ensure that the Solaris 8 compatible client CD-ROM is being used (This is noted on the Client CD-ROM label).
